SAN DIEGO CHAPTER NEWS LETTER

January 25, 2007

Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by President Candise Flippin at Scripps Memorial Hospital, La Jolla, CA at 1815.


Approval of Minutes: The minutes of December 7, 2006, General meeting was approved as written in the newsletter.

Officer & Committee Reports:


Presidents Report:

  • Candise welcomes everyone, new members and returning members introduced.

  • Congratulations to Jim Stobinski for winning the National Award for Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Nursing Management for 2007. He will be awarded this honor at 2007 Congress Awards dinner in Orlando, Florida.  Everyone is invited to attend if you are going to be in Florida.

  • The last day to register is 1-31-07 to receive a discount on Congress Fees.

  • The list of eligible congress delegates was announced; we have no alternates, but if you are willing to volunteer to be an alternate, please see Candise.

  • Candise will be attending the ORNCC meeting in Ontario, Ca. on February 3, 2007 and invites anyone who wants to attend to contact her.

President Elect:

  •  February 6 at 5 pm is the deadline for newsletter items.

  • Everyone is encouraged to write articles and submit them.

Vice President:

  • Dolores Fazzino will be the next speaker at the February general meeting at Palomar Hospital. Dolores gave a 2 minute introduction on her topic of Guided Imagery and Energy Healing.

  • The spring workshop will be at Naval Medical Center. May 19, 2007, please mark your calendars. Clinical lectures will be presented in small breakout sessions in their education center. There will be a new products display in the exhibit hall, breakfast and lunch will be provided. Please encourage the vendors at your facility to participate.

  • If you’re going to attend the awards dinner at Congress, Jim is taking reservations.

Treasurer/Finance:  The Treasurer's report is available to the membership in the newsletter or at the General Meetings.
 

By-Laws & Policy: No report at this time


Membership:

  • 361 members , 4 standard, 12 lapsed members

  • Membership packets and applications are available tonight, check
    at the hospitality table.

Legislative:

  • Please read your newsletter.

  • At this time there are legislations and discussions in progress regarding the RN Scope of Practice,
    RNFA role and Patient Safety issues.

Nominating Committee:

  • Willingness to serve forms is available on line and in the newsletter.

  • We encourage all members to become active in the chapter, there are many entry level roles for members to participate and get involved.

Fall and Spring Workshop:  See VP report.


Informatics: Our website is still being attacked by spam, but we are slowly winning!


Hospitality:

  • Thank you Scripps Hospital for the refreshments.

  • We have 4 items to raffle tonight so we encourage everyone to buy a ticket. Parking tickets will be validated bring them to the Hospitality table.

Scholarship:

  • CNOR/CRNFA applications are available on line for members.

  • Grants for first time Congress Attendees are available in the newsletter
    or on line.

  • There is an online study course for the CNOR Exam.

Golf Committee: June 8, 2007. Twin Oaks, San Marcos, CA.


Ways and Means:

  • Donations of raffle items for General meetings are greatly appreciated.

  • Research: Please submit ideas for the committee to Jim.

Announcements:

  • Nancy Lilliot a San Diego Chapter member and CCI Board member has been elected as President for 2008 CCI Board. Congratulations Nancy.

  • Suzanne Ward announcing the RNFA program at UCLA has undergone changes to reflect their scope of practice and education, she would like to survey the members, you can contact her at ORNCC.org. There is also a link to the survey on the ORNCC website.

  • Our chapter has a fundraising table at this year’s Congress. We would like to sell scrub hats again and the board is looking in to possibly selling jump drives with our logo on it to members.

  • Peka Ritchey has patterns for members to cut the hats and her mother is volunteering to sew them. We need donations of fabric and your time. Thanks.


There being no further business to conduct, the meeting was adjourned at 1845. The next meeting is scheduled for 6:15pm, February 22, 2007 at Palomar Medical Center in Escondido.
