According to the current Nursing Voice, the American Nurses Association (ANA) and ANA\C, California’s state affiliate, the lawsuit  the California Department of Education urging School Administrators of the necessity to have RNs in the schools.

A new call for support on “The Future of Prescriptive Authority” is currently planning a legislative effort to bring about prescriptive privileges for all Advanced Practice RNs (APRNs).  APRNs are clinical nurse specialists;  nurse practitioners; nurse midwives; nurse anesthetists.    This collaboration is necessary to keep professional and specialty groups from splintering into special interest groups.  For complete information on this issue, please read the March, April, May 2008 Nursing Voice

Another key issue for this 2008 session is to include legislation that will allow the Community Colleges to grant a Bachelor’s Degree program for their three and a half year programs.  Also in this area are plans to include income for nurse educators that would be competitive with the private sector.  By the next newsletter I hope to have more information after attending AORN conference.
